You Can Be An Unstoppable Speaker — Here Are 4 Keys Steps To How It’s Done
For the past number of years, I have been helping women become unstoppable with their voices and their impact.
My speaking and mentoring work have not only been tremendously satisfying. Personally, it has also brought me my own financial freedom, with a globetrotting lifestyle and multiple six-figure revenues.
Like anything worth doing well, it doesn’t happen overnight. But it can happen more quickly than you might think, and there are key steps that will get you on your way.
1. Make the decision.
First, make the decision that you’re going to do this. You really are going to take every opportunity you can to have your message heard. And then commit to this decision. Don’t dismiss the power of making the decision that you are going to change your life. When you make that decision, everything that follows will be easier.
The problem is that many entrepreneurs are just trying out a new approach – they aren’t fully in the decision, and if it doesn’t work, they kind of jump back. But when you’re fully committed, there’s no turning back.
To be unstoppable, you have to follow through on the promises you make to yourself. This makes you trust yourself even more, and that gives you the confidence you need to make the impact you want.
This is the kind of decision that you feel in your gut. You know the kind. It’s the one you don’t give up on. If you don’t know, then look at decisions you’ve really committed to in your life, and it will give you all the ideas you need.
2. Know your people!
Once you’ve decided you’re really doing this, then it’s about getting clear on who you want to impact. Who and where are your people? What are the problems they have, and how are you the solution? Why is it that they need you more than anybody else?
These are not easy questions, but they are crucial.
Some entrepreneurs don’t call out their ideal people when they speak. That’s where clear messaging comes in.
You simply can’t be unstoppable without a crystal clear message that perfectly frames the problems you solve and the outcomes you deliver. Getting this is an absolute game-changer, especially for people who are already speaking and wondering, why is nobody responding to my talks?
Has that ever happened to you? Not getting the desired response from your talks is likely because you’re describing your process, talking about what you do, and not talking enough about the outcome you deliver for your clients.
You’re making it about you, not them. It's always about them. Even your story is really about them.
Many speakers often get caught up before they speak by spending too much time getting ready to be ready to speak.
And what I mean is this: They’re trying to create the perfect talk or presentation before they start speaking and fool themselves into thinking that ‘one day have they’ll be ready. The perfect talk comes from speaking, from finding out what works and what people respond to.
In my opinion, there’s nothing more powerful than when an entrepreneur takes the stage with a powerful message and story. And one audience can literally 10x your business if you get it right. Imagine doing that every week or every month. You would grow so fast!
3. What’s in it for you.
You also have to be very clear about what’s in it for you. You have to have a strategy for monetization, a deliberate plan for making an income from your speaking.
That means you’re not speaking and hoping for the best. You’re speaking with a clear strategy of Step A, Step B, Step C. That means that you walk away from events not only have made an impact but also having made income. You leave with people who want to talk to you about what you can do for them because they related to your message and your story.
You have to know what you have to offer has value for people and the only way you will know that is by measuring results each time you speak and always aiming to do better the next stage you take.
I know if you’re part of this community you want to make a difference, but the reality is that you’re not really making a difference if you’re speaking to people for free and walking away with nothing.
You have to decide what your monetization plan is for that before you step on any stages.
4. Get your story straight!
Last and most certainly not least - your story. People love stories. It’s a fact that we experience much the same feelings when someone is telling a story, as the feelings they would have from them because of experience.
Think about that for a moment. It's crazy. But I bet your heart has been touched, and tears have fallen from your eyes while listening to someone speak?
And it wasn’t their content; it was the way they used stories to make their points.
In most stages I’ve spoken on, I’ve had people come up and ask me about my content, but almost all of the stages I’ve spoken on, I've had people tell me how they related to my story.
The truth is that only YOU are holding yourself back. To be unstoppable, you have to give yourself a chance to get good by making as many mistakes as you can as fast as you can because the fastest way to become unstoppable at something is to risk failing at it first.
And the sooner you get started, the better because you’re leaving more money and clients than you can imagine on the table by not speaking.
I’ve spoken on stages around the world and in this past year to a host of virtual international audiences. I know this works because I’ve done it. And I’ve helped scores of amazing entrepreneurs from around the world do it too.
